Tragic Telegram

Stieg Trenter, from 1947. My first contact with Trenter, and a lovely meeting it was – the language is rich and colourful in a way quite different from most of the recent Swedish crime novels I’ve read (I read the book in Swedish so I can’t really say anything about the English translation, though).

Most of Trenter’s novels take place in Stockholm and so does Tragic Telegram, but we also find ourselves on a trip to Italy where photographer Harry Friberg and police man Vesper Johnson (Trenter’s reoccurring heroes) are looking for the murder of a Swedish-Italian woman in Stockholm.

The tempo in the book is much slower than in most crime novels of today, but nevertheless – I like it!
