MWA University

Last weekend I attended MWA University, a one day seminar, organized by Mystery Writers of America.

What did we learn?

We learned how to develop an idea, create a dramatic structure, plot and intriguing characters, how to describe a setting, the importance of editing and last but not least we got to hear what the writing life is like.

Actress/author Harley Jane Kozak talks about how you create intriguing characters and she uses Lisbeth Salander as an example.

Networking

The speakers were mostly award-winning authors, and there were plenty of published authors in the audience.

I sat next to Teresa Burrell, whose fifth novel was recently published. (Note her earrings – all her novels in miniature format.) It was so inspiring to be surrounded by a crowd of people who all have the same interest as yourself.
