Hollywood has found its Lisbeth Salander

The relatively unknown actress Rooney Mara will shoulder the responsibility of playing Lisbeth Salander in the American adaption of “The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo,” ending a long time of speculation. We already knew that Daniel Craig (aka James Bond) will play Mikael Blomkvist and Robin Wright will play Erika Berger.

Rumor has it that two Swedes may find their way into the movie. Stellan Skarsgård is mentioned as a possibility for the role of Martin Vanger and Max von Sydow may play his uncle Henrik Vanger. Rumors also has it that the director David Fincher wants all actors to speak English with a Swedish accent, and using Swedish actors may facilitate that task.

Filming starts in Sweden in September, and the movie will be released December 21, 2011.
